Light Box, Mark I . Dismayed by how much a light box costs, and tired of tracing against my front door window, I built this baby with my scanner’s cardboard box, a sheet of frosted glass I found on the street, and 2 $2.00 LED stick-on lights.
I think the box needs to be deeper to spread the light out more. Then there’s the question of whether I need more light. Saw other home-built light-boxes on the web. Some complex, and beautifully carpentered, with CFC lights inside. Others cheap, like this overturned white tupperware box with a flouro light tube underneath.
This one is usable, for now, even though the LED lights create hot spots. Still, cheaper than the others I’ve seen, and I like being able to put it on my lap. If I see a good light at a sidewalk sale, I’ll pick it up!
UPDATE! - I’ve improved the Light Box by looking at a professional one in an art store and seeing how it’s made! Story here.
